GOSHEN LAND
Our history
GOSHEN LAND was created in 2013 on the initiative of the Board of Directors of the NGO Empowering Response Burundi to provide sustainable solutions to the gaps in the development of value chains, agriculture and agribusiness in Burundi and Africa. Agro-pastoral development is supported by a wide range of government partners in Burundi. The projects and programmes that support farmers and stockbreeders have a relatively short lifespan (between 3 and 5 years). Many interventions focus on increasing food production to ensure food security and tackle malnutrition. According to the testimonies of beneficiaries and information gathered in the field, value chains are almost mainly limited to two linkages: production and post-harvest management. The other links in the chains, such as the processing of agri-food products, transport, sales, marketing and access to the product market, represent gaps in the effective development of value chains in promising crops . Similarly, farmers organised into Producer Organisations or cooperatives do not benefit from all the support they need for the two links in the chain: production and post-harvest management. There is often a glaring lack of training in business plans and accounting. Goshen Land has set itself the vision, mission, values and strategic objectives to overcome these shortcomings and gaps in the development of value chains around promising commodities .
